Drug recommend to pregnant

Drug recommended to pregnant patients with previous preterm deliveries: 17 alpha hydroxyprogesterone caproate (17P):

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists(ACOG) issued a press release regarding the use of progesterone as treatment for help preventing preterm deliveries . The purpose of the press release was to recommend that all pregnant women with a prior history of preterm birth (before 37 weeks of gestation), be treated with weekly injections of 17 P. This recommendation was based on two studies done using progesterone in a selected group of high risk patients who had a previous preterm delivery. One of these studies used intramuscular injections of 17 alpha hydroxyprogesterone caproate beginning at 16-20 of pregnancy through 36 weeks or until delivery. This regimen showed a significant benefit in patients that received the medication, who had up to 42 percent fewer preterm deliveries than women that did not received the medication (those who received placebo).

At VITA Healthcare we provide the service of weekly 17P injections in the home or work place for patients at risk. If you want more information please click on the following link: www.acog.org/from_home/publications/press_releases/nr10-31-03-2.cfm
